Our Story

From One Class in Glasgow to a Movement Changing Lives
Led by Passion. Built by Community.

Rooted in Afro-Brazilian tradition, Capoeira blends martial arts, dance, acrobatics, and rhythm in a way that’s expressive, inclusive, and deeply transformational.

Our mission is simple: Capoeira 4 All

Whether you’re a child, adult, beginner, or experienced mover—everyone has a place in the roda. We focus especially on reaching those who face barriers to movement and culture, creating opportunities for personal growth, social connection, and vibrant well-being.

Capoeira 4 Scotland (C4S) didn’t start with a plan to be the biggest or the boldest. It started with a spark — a deep love for Capoeira, a calling to share it, and a belief that this powerful Afro-Brazilian art could change lives right here in Scotland.

That belief hasn’t changed. But everything else has grown.

A Calling to Capoeira

Fiaz first steps into the world of Capoeira, drawn by the rhythms of the berimbau and the energy of the roda. His journey takes him from Glasgow to Brazil, learning under masters like Contra-Mestre Dion Dragas and Mestre Papa-Léguas — forging a path of dedication, discipline, and cultural immersion.

Foundations in Glasgow

Recognising the need to reach the next generation, Fiaz creates the Glasgow University Capoeira Club — opening new doors for students to connect through movement, culture, and community.

From just a few classes, C4S grows to 9+ weekly sessions, including children’s classes, adult training, and tailored outreach programmes for refugees, asylum seekers, and people with Additional Support Needs.

A Masterful Milestone

After more than two decades of devotion to Capoeira, Fiaz is promoted to Contra-Mestre — honoured for his leadership, teaching, and lifelong contribution to the art across Scotland and beyond.

Today
Capoeira That Connects Us All

From its humble roots, C4S — founded by Contra-Mestre Fiaz, known as Lobão — has become a living, breathing community. Children, adults, artists, and families unite in a celebration of movement, music, and the spirit of resilience.

Tucum: Strong as Iron, Rooted in Purpose

We are proud to represent the Tucum Capoeira lineage, founded by Mestre Papa-Léguas. Tucum means more than just a name – it symbolises strength, healing, communality, and integrity. Like the wood it’s named after, Tucum Capoeira is strong, flexible, and woven into everything we do.

We carry these values in our classes, in our music, and in the way we treat each other – with respect, honesty, and joy.

The Movement is Growing

Our team now includes incredible coaches like Maciej, Andrew, Corin, Naia, Maya, and our assistant coaches who started as students and grew into mentors and young leaders who are shaping the next generation of capoeiristas. We’ve taught in schools, universities, refugee programmes, cultural festivals and communities across Scotland.

We’ve run workshops, community events, and Capoeira camps for kids who’ve never experienced anything like it.

And we’re just getting started.

Why we do this

Because we know music heals.

Because we believe movement should be meaningful.

Because community changes lives.

Because Capoeira is too powerful to be kept behind closed doors.
